Background

I began my professional acting career in 1983 after graduating from the brilliant Hull University with a BA Hons in Drama.

My background is mostly in Theatre, and I spent 7 years touring Shakespeare, Beckett, Jonson, Homer and new plays with Sheffield based Compass Theatre Company, performing throughout the UK and in Holland, Germany, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia,

Hong Kong, South Korea and the Philippines.

Drama Classes

After running the Helen O’Grady Drama Academy with Nick, my husband,

I now teach one to one private Drama Classes from home. I want to offer the sort of classes that I wish I’d had as a child - a place to explore different characters, scenes, genres, periods in history whilst developing a strong sense of self through acting exercises and games.

LAMDA Exams

I have been coaching students for LAMDA exams for many years, and in 2025 all passed with a Distinction.

These are practical exams set by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and are open to Adults as well.

Role Play

I have worked extensively as a Story Teller, Role Player and Character Actor for the Museums and Art Galleries in Sheffield, performing as historical and fictional characters for events and festivals.
